Having owned and operated Maroochy District Insurance Brokers on the Sunshine Coast since 1991, I commenced discussions with MGA Insurance Brokers in 2002 with a view to selling the business and formulating a succession plan.
The sale completed in early 2003 and our client data was converted to the MGA SmartBroker System, which incorporates compliance, processing and management tools.
As part of the MGA model, I became a Corporate Authorised Representative and with my existing staff continued to service the existing client base with my income tied into the management of the branch.
Recently MGA assisted me to negotiate the sale of my Portfolio Management rights to Todd Redman in a transitional arrangement over two years. Todd will then be well positioned as the owner of the management asset and it is personally satisfying to know that our clients will be well serviced by Todd into the future.
My association with MGA has been very rewarding and I have enjoyed working within their friendly structure. The MGA model has proven to be an ideal long-term succession solution for me, as it identifies the management rights as an asset and allows me to properly hand over to a new stakeholder in the business.
The Sunshine Coast office is well geared for growth following our recent relocation to the Maroochydore CBD as MGA continues to lead the way in the provision of insurance broking services.
